Anatolii Slepyshev was born in Moscow in 1932. He graduated from the Moscow Art Institute in 1965. In 1975 he took part in the exhibition at the Palace of Culture at the Exhibition of National Economic Achievements (VDNKh) in Moscow, one of the most scandalous public displays in the history of the Moscow underground. Following the exhibit, he actively participated in all projects and events of the nonofficial artistic community. Seemingly apolitical, his art can be seen to protest conventional values and lost deals. The artist is deeply concerned with «eternal problems,» and often treats the theme of human fate. His art belongs to the tradition of Neo-Expressionism.
Slepyshev took part in the famous Sotheby’s auction of Russian avant-garde and contemporary art in Moscow in 1988. Later his paintings were purchased by the Ludwig Museum in Cologne and the Berlin National Gallery. Slepyshev lives and works in Moscow.
