Boris Zaborov was born in 1937 in Minsk, Belorussia. In 1961 he graduated from the Leningrad Academy of Art. Like many of his fellow artists, he worked in book illustration and design, and often received awards for his work at the Graphic Art Biennales in Bratislava, Bologna, Leipzig, and Tokyo. Along with book design, the artist developed a special type of painting that resembles antique photographs. His work was demonstrated at official exhibitions of the Soviet Union of Artists.
Zaborov emigrated to France in 1980. The emigration further strengthened the nostalgic tendency in his art. Like Kuper, Zaborov became heavily interested in the surface texture of a painting.
Zaborov’s paintings are housed in some of the major museums and private collections of Europe, the United States, and Japan. The artist lives in Paris.
