Dmitrii Krasnopevtsev was born in Moscow in 1925. After the war he attended the Art Institute of the 1905 Revolution and later studied stage design at the Surikov Institute of Art. His theatrical education helped shape his particular perspective of the world, in which objects of our immediate surroundings are transformed into actors of a magical theater. The theater served as a final refuge of underlying reality for the artist.
Krasnopevtsev was an active member of the Union of Artists and the Moscow City Council of Graphic Artists (Gorkom). His art was shown regularly at exhibits of the Moscow nonconformists. Currently his compositions are on permanent display in Moscow at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Krasnopevtsev died in Moscow in 1996.
