Mikhail Romadin was born in Moscow in 1940, the son of the famous Soviet artist and art historian Nikolai Romadin. In 1963 he graduated from the All-Union Cinema Institute in Moscow. He became close to the filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky and contributed to the production of his famous films Andrei Rublev and Solaris. He also worked with Andrei Konchalovsky on his alternative films.
Romadin’s art is notable for his synthesis of several layers of reality in one artistic space, and the organic unity of social symbols. He works in book design, photography, fashion, and films, in each instance structuring the work of art in a manner that exceeds the normal boundaries of its genre.
Since 1969 he has exhibited his work throughout Europe and the United States. He lives and works in Moscow and Paris.
