Dmitri Kantorov, born in Moscow in 1958; Moscow Pamyati 1905 goda Art School graduate (1977). In 1977–79 Kantorov attended the Moscow Technology Institute, majoring in textiles. He first exhibited his works in 1979, took part in the 17th Youth Exhibition at Moscow’s Kuznetskii Most House of Artists that caused a sensation in 1986, contributed to “The First Exhibition of Avant-garde Artists Club (KLAVA)” at Moscow’s Kashirka exhibition hall in 1987, exhibited his works at the Moscow Artists Union stand at Art Basel, Switzerland, in 1988, and contributed to the exhibition “Art Contemporain Sovietique. Pentres et Sculptures” at Palais de Congrès Versailles, France, and to the exhibition “Dialogue: ‘Avant-garde’ Russe et Art Contemporain Sovietique” at Centre Boris Vian, Paris, in 1989. Kantorov held his first solo show, “The Nomenclatura Sanatorium”, in 1989 within the framework of the “Myths and Reality” exhibition project at the Palace of Youth, Moscow. “Civil War”, his first solo show abroad, took place at the Stewart Levi Gallery, New York, USA, in 1990. In 1994 Kantorov joined the Moscow Artists Union. He staged many solo shows and contributed to numerous group projects, including his solo show “Election Campaign” within the framework of the “Turn-key Party” project of the Marat Guelman Gallery in 1995. His works are in corporate and private collections in Russia, Poland, Great Britain, France and the USA, as well as in collections of authoritative foundations and galleries, such as the Kolodzey Art Foundation (Washington, DC, USA), the Stewart Levi Gallery (New York, USA), the Maya Polsky Gallery (Chicago, USA), the Alex Edmund Gallery (New York, USA), the Granovsky Gallery (San Francisco, USA) and the Alexander Gallery (Paris, France).
