Andrei Grositsky was born in Moscow in 1934. He studied at the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow and graduated in 1959. In the late 1960s he joined the nonofficial art movement and began to participate in the «apartment» exhibitions. His art centers around magical realism and an alternative reality. His object world includes water taps and pipes, kettles, boxes, old mannequins, frames, electric meters, irons, and bottles. For Grositsky, these banal objects reveal the essence of the surrounding reality.

Grositsky participated in the Beekeeping Pavilion Exhibit in 1975, and since 1989 has been regularly exhibiting his works in Europe and the United States. His paintings and objects can be found in numerous museum and private collections in Russia and the West. The artist lives and works in Moscow.
