The vase is an example of official Soviet decorative wares, as is attested by its typical decoration theme.
The hammer and the sickle was the first Soviet emblem of the union of workers and peasants and symbolized communism. The government resolution on the official status of that emblem was passed in late March – early April 1918 and was endorsed by the 5 th Congress of Soviets on July 10 of that year. The hammer and sickle was on the stamp of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Russian Federation, and that emblem enjoyed the status of the so-called Smaller Emblem of the Soviet Union until the mid-1930s.
