Sergei Geta, Moscow artist famous for his works done in the style of hyper- and photorealism. This trend developed vigorously in the Soviet Union in the mid-1970s and its most important exhibitions took place in the 1980s. Geta turned to the aesthetics of hyperrealism in the late 1970s – early 1980s in his series of Portraits drawings. In the 1980s he was attracted primarily to the social environment and “chance snapshot” aesthetics (the “VDNKh” series). Like many other adepts of hyperrealism, Sergei Geta opted for painting in the 1990s. His method of “ecological realism” combines the potential of painting techniques with the photographic sharpness of eye.
