The hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky monument (sculptor M.O. Mikeshin, 1835–1896, and architect V.N. Nikolayev, 1847–1911) was officially unveiled on St. Sophia Square in Kiev on June 23, 1888. The monument became a local landmark and for long served as an artistic symbol of the Ukrainian capital. The representation of the monument was a typical theme used in giftware.
