The vase apparently shows lock No. 3 control tower of the Moskva-Volga Canal (the Yakhromsky lock of the Moscow Canal). Designed in 1937 by the architect V.Y. Movchan, the Yakhromsky lock is considered to be one of the most beautiful and original architectural structures of the canal. Its towers are decorated with copper representations of Christopher Columbus’s caravels.
