Iosif Yakerson was born in Leningrad in 1936. From 1947 to 1954 he attended the secondary art school under the Repin Institute of Painting, Modeling and Architecture in Leningrad and from 1954 to 1960 studied under Babasyuk, Fomin and E.E. Moiseyenko at the Repin Institute of Painting, Modeling and Architecture.  Yakerson first exhibited his works in 1947, when still a secondary art school student. In 1973 he left the Soviet Union for Israel and from that time on his works have been exhibited at numerous solo and group shows in Israel, the USA, Switzerland, Australia and Russia.  His works are in museums, galleries and private collections, including, among others, the Vatican Museum of Contemporary Art, the private collection of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, the Artillery Museum of St. Petersburg and the Vassar College Museum of New York.
