The hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky monument (sculptor M.O. Mikeshin, 1835–1896; architect V.N. Nikolayev, 1847–1911) was officially unveiled on Kiev’s St Sophia Square on June 23, 1888. The monument has become a local landmark and long served as an artistic symbol of the Ukrainian capital. Its representation was a typical giftware motif.

It was actively used in wares made for the 300th anniversary of Ukraine’s unification with Russia, which was officially marked in 1954. This vase is apparently of that anniversary series.

The presence of a gift inscription does not contradict our dating.
