Col. Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (1934–1968), the first man to make a space flight on April 12, 1961, Soviet pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union (1961). The photograph of Yuri Gagarin reproduced on the vase is perhaps one of his most popular portraits. It made to the front page of a special Pravda daily issue on April 12, 1961 and was then reproduced in posters and postcards.
